Holmenkollen

To celebrate my brother's birthday this year I had decided to surprise him with a mini-weekend at Holmenkollen. Holmenkollen is easily accessible by subway from central Oslo.

During our weekend we spent one night at Holmenkollen Park Hotel Rica. I had been there before; on a  work conference. The oldest parts of the hotel are more than 100 years old and built in the Norwegian dragon style with a lot of nice wooden decorations.

The hotel has a SPA and a gym with modern equipment. They also have a swimming pool and a jacuzzi. The later one is very nice in a cold day!

The hotel has three restaurants. In Galleriet the breakfast buffé is served. The fine dining restaurant is called De Fem Stuer and Oscarstuen serves a little more basic food.

Something that you have to do when you visit Holmenkollen is to have a look at the new ski-jump tower.

During October last year the ski-jump tower was beautifully lit up in pink to show the support of the breast cancer campain.

Last year in March the Ski World Championship was in Holmenkollen. Me and a friend went there to watch the ski-jump competitions.

Close to the subway station you can find Holmenkollen Restaurant which offers a nice view over Oslo. They have a nice fire place with sofas around where you can have a coffee. They also serve lunch and dinner.

Holmenkollen also has a ski museum where you can learn about the Norwegian skiing history. From the museum you can also take an elevator up in the ski-jump tower.

At Holmenkollen you can also find a nice wooden church. The original church from the beginning of the 1900's was burnt down in the year of 1992. The new church was completed in 1996.
